I am a Postdoc Researcher in the Machine Learning group of Prof. Ulf Brefeld at Leuphana University Lüneburg, Germany. I am currently working on Representation Learning of Football (Soccer) matches with a tactical perspective.
I was previously a Professor of Computer Science at UFMS, Brazil. I am still a member of the Laboratório de Inteligência Artificial (LIA) and also a collaborating Professor in the CS Postgraduate Program of this same institution.
Before that I was a lecturer at IFG, Brazil, where some colleagues and I founded the first research and development lab of this institution.
I hold a PhD on ML and NLP from PUC-Rio, Brazil.
My main research interests are on ML for Natural Language Processing (NLP) problems. I have invented and developed state-of-the-art models for different NLP problems, like dependency parsing, coreference resolution, named entity recognition, event extraction, question answering, among others.
Currently, I am also doing research on representation learning for football, with a particular focus on representations that uncover tactical patterns. I am mainly interested in deep learning approaches, like attention mechanisms and graph neural networks trained by self supervision.
